Met Opera’s Rigoletto Performance

In case you don't know much about Rigoletto, Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto first premiered in 1851. Though the Met Opera’s Michael Mayer’s version changes setting and time, the underlying plot holds true to Verdi’s. A story of tragedy, betrayal, lust, and revenge, Mayer’s fabulously entertaining Rigoletto takes place in 1960’s Las Vegas. “I thought the Duke could be a Las Vegas star who has his own fabulous casino and puts on shows, who entertains the masses, makes a lot of money, and provides entertainment for his gigantic entourage”,  explains Mayer in the Met’s Q&A interview. To find out more about the show, you can see this full interview, and get the synopsis of Rigoletto on the Metropolitan Opera's website.
