Stuffed Artisan Cannolis NYC
Cannolis in New York City That Come in Some Extraordinary Flavors
Because you can’t eat cupcakes every day (well… yes you can, but it’s nice to have variety, too), welcome, please, Stuffed Artisan Cannolis, the new “Cannoli Spot and Coffee Shop” on the Lower East Side that is fast becoming a viable option for a quick sugary pick-me-up while shopping in the neighborhood, or, even better, for a festive party platter to go with some of the best cannolis in NYC. And by festive we mean traditional, ricotta-based cannolis, kitted out with all sorts of bright, candy-coated garnishes, and Stuffed Artisan Cannolis also has flavors such as Pumpkin Pie, Red Licorice, Birthday Cake, French Toast and PB&J.
Story Behind Stuffed Artisan Cannolis in NYC
The Stuffed Artisan Cannolis NYC shop is the creation of long-time Little Italy cooks and caterers Anthony Fontana and Brielle Dahan, who for the past couple of years have been hawking their trademark fun-flavored cannolis from a cart at the annual Feast of San Gennaro. Last year the Stuffed Artisan Cannolis cart sold almost 30,000–yes, thirty THOUSAND–of these mini delights, and so Fontana and Dahan thought a store was in order. We stopped by the other night for a quick sampling, and left sweetened and satisfied.
Stuffed Artisan Cannolis sells three mini-cannolis for $5, which is plenty for two people to split. We made quick work of our selections, and will definitely return, and soon, to try some more. Our favorite was probably the Coco Loco (formerly the Almond Joy, until Hershey’s called Fontana and said: “No”), with its coconut-flavored ricotta stuffed into a chocolate shell, topped with more chocolate and coconut, studded with almonds. Another tasty selection at Stuffed Artisan Cannolis (in a super-sweet kind of way) were the Dulce de Leche (in regular shell), nice and caramelly; and the Peppermint Stick, which also worked well surrounded by crunchy chocolatey goodness.
