Glenwood Crystal Green and Emerald Green residents, meet your new Greek restaurant neighborhood, Snack EOS. Recently opened from the folks behind long-time West Village go-to spot Snack Taverna, and even longer-time Thompson Street go-to spot Snack SoHo, Snack EOS follows in their footsteps with a menu of classic Greek crowd-pleasers, updated with contemporary twists. Joining the NYC restaurant scene in perfect time for winter weather, Snack EOS delivers hearty dishes in a warm and welcoming environment.

Getting A Feel For The New Snacks Location

I’ve had several satisfying meals at both downtown Snacks over the years–these are not destination restaurants, but they know how to make you happy–so I had an idea of what to expect when I went to Snack EOS. Located on the corner of 39th Street and 9th Avenue, right down the block from both Crystal Green and Emerald Green, the stylish facade and pretty, warmly-lit dining room serves as another pleasant reminder how much this stretch of Midtown West has changed over the last few years. The Snack EOS staff was friendly and helpful, the prices fair, and despite some opening-week hiccups, they clearly know what they’re doing back there in the kitchen.

The Greek Food at Snack EOS

Take my octopus appetizer, for example, a single tentacle of perfectly-cooked (crispy skin, meltingly tender inside), well-seasoned cephalopod paired smartly with a cool, fennel-based slaw and a pile of thinly sliced pancetta adding some gamey crunch. Taramosalata, the classic, pinkish, fish-roe dip that is certainly the Greek dish I’ve eaten most often in my life, was a bit of a disappointment at Snack EOS: too soupy, oddly astringent. Better to head right for Kalamaki section of the Snack EOS preview menu, entree-sized skewers of meats and veggies all priced under $20. I had the lamb, which was maybe a bit overcooked, but nicely seasoned and plenty tender, arriving with chunks of soft, sweet squash and chewy farro salad.
