Fashion Night Out NYC: THIS FRIDAY, September 10

Fahion Night Out models in NYC in geometric patterns tanks and long varying shades of white shirts

It's all a bit much, to be sure, and more than a little shallow (let's celebrate shopping!!), but still… the increasingly sprawling, lavish, and heavily-attended Fashion Night Out NYC has already become an early-fall ritual here in the big town, especially if you're in your 20s or 30s, and enjoy things like free makeovers, crudite, in-store DJs, celebrity-spotting, and cocktails. Oh, and running around the city with your friends, laughing. And parties. And good-looking people-watching. And limited-edition bags and jewelry. And clothes. And, um, shopping.

We're not going to pretend to know where you can find all of the coolest parties and best giveaways–Fashion Night Out has gotten so huge this year, we can't keep up–but we have seen a bunch of good guides online from people who usually know the scoop, including:

Fashion Night Out NYC 2010 details

Vogue Magazine started it all last September, and we heard that it was a total blast. This year we're just going to pick a neighborhood or two–probably Soho, and/or the Flatiron–and wander around and see what happens. But if you want to plan your night on the town–the fun goes from about 6:00 to about 11:00, all over town–you can a find a complete list of all events and parties and sales and music and food and special guests at the Fashion Night Out NYC 2010 website.
