Fall for Dance 2009 tickets–every seat, only $10!–go on sale this Sunday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m., so you still have a chance to take advantage of one of New York City’s great cultural values. How great a value is the Fall for Dance Festival? For ten fabulous days every year, the world-renowned City Center assembles the brightest stars of dance, both established favorites and envelope-pushing newcomers, to perform full-length, two-hour-plus shows? and, as we’ve now said a couple of times, every seat is only $10. When we went to the City Center Fall for Dance Festival a couple of years ago, we sat in the sixth row (the tickets were ordered online precisely at start time) and saw five terrific short pieces. For $10. That’s, like, 90% off!

The marketing concept behind the Fall for Dance Festival is to expose a broader audience to dance as an entertainment option, so as you can imagine, the shows emphasize the lively, the loud, the crowd-pleasing. And the performers in Fall for Dance 2009 are stellar indeed, including such luminaries as the tap-dance genius Savion Glover; the acclaimed Boston Ballet doing the classic Afternoon of a Faun; the world-famous Martha Graham Dance Company flirting like crazy in the Diversion of Angels; and the super-creative Basil Twist, who uses puppets in ways you’ve never seen before.

Fall for Dance 2009 is special for another reason, too: this year the Festival pays tribute to the extraordinary Ballets Russes, and so each dance will either be a legendary piece of ballet from that company’s brilliant past, or a contemporary interpretation of one of its classic works. And no matter which night you attend the City Center Fall for Dance Festival, you are guaranteed dance at it’s finest, filled with energy, life, passion and sheer, unadulterated joy.
