Don’t Miss Out! The 10th Anniversary of The Fall For Dance Festival
For ten years now, the annual Fall For Dance Festival has been throwing one of the season's best parties, with world-renowned companies converging on City Center for two weeks of crowd-pleasing pieces at a drastically reduced price. It's always excellent; it always sell out fast. So what does the Fall For Festival Festival 2013 do for this, its 10 Anniversary celebration?
In addition to its as-usual all-star lineup of City Center shows, on September 16th and 17th, there will be two FREE pre-festival performances in Central Park's Delacorte Theater, which seems to me like a supremely pleasant way to spend an early-autumn evening.
The Impressive Line Up of Performances
The Fall For Dance Festival 2013 runs from Wednesday, September 25, through Saturday, October 5, and every night looks like a winner. Each performance features four different works, touching upon a broad range of styles: ballet, tap, modern, jazz, hip hop. The program pulls from an impressive list of 20 internationally acclaimed artists and companies, such as:
- The Royal Ballet
- DanceBrazil
- Ballet Hispanico
- the Martha Graham Dance Company
- BODYTRAFFIC
- Colin Dunne
- Dance Theatre of Harlem
- Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
And because one of the driving forces behind the Festival is the desire to introduce young people to dance, in my experience most of the pieces staged here are instantly engaging, and deliberately lively.
Ticket Prices are Out of This World
Most remarkably, every ticket at the Fall For Dance Festival 2013 is only $15! Given the pedigree of the performers and the relative grandeur of the City Center setting, this is an exceptional bargain for what is certain to be a memorable night on the town. Even more of a bargain? The FREE Fall For Dance Central park shows, which will feature works by New York City Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, and STREB Extreme Action Company. Tickets will be handed out for these on the day of the shows at the Delacorte Theater, first-come-first-served, two-per-person, a la the Shakespeare In the Park system. There will also be a "virtual line" lottery for tickets, which you enter at the Fall For Dance 2013 website.
