Gathering with friends and family to break bread and kick off 2018 is just about the best way to bring in the new year we can think of. Most likely, the last thing you want to do after staying up late the night before is to prepare anything homemade in your NYC apartment, so we’ve taken the legwork out of it and rounded up a few excellent places for you and your loved ones to brunch on New Year’s Day. And to put the frosting on the cake? They are all located in your very own Glenwood Manhattan neighborhood, meaning a quick walk is all the commute you’ll need!

For Downtowners: Bubby’s

Bubby’s is everything you love about classic diner food, taken to the next level. Located at 120 Hudson St, Bubby’s has been a Downtown staple since 1990, meaning you know it’s a goodie! Everything on the a la carte menu has earned its spot over the years, but we’re told that their sour-cream pancakes are a comfort food classic! And of course, any of the pie selections for dessert!

Another plus about Bubby’s? It’s spacious and super family friendly, so feel free to bring those kids without hesitation!

For Midtown Easters: Tavern 62 By David Burke

For a New Year’s Day brunch that is a bit elevated, consider heading to Tavern 62 by David Burke, located at 135 East 62nd Street. Easily accessible for both Midtown East residents, as well as Upper East Siders living closer to the 60’s, this modern American tavern offers an all-day menu with contemporary American plates. You’ll be paying $49 for a three-course prix fixe meal, and for an additional $15, you can enjoy unlimited Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, and Screwdrivers. Although it’s prix fixe, there’s plenty of options for every taste and dietary restriction. However, most people would recommend that you go with their standout menu item for your dessert selection: Cheesecake Lollipop Trees, complete with raspberry, bubblegum, and whipped cream flavors. It’s legendary for a reason!

Brunch Hours: 11am – 4pm

For Upper East Siders: Blake Lane

For a brunch that feels inspired by our West Coast California neighbors, yet nestled in our very own Upper East Side, head to Blake Lane at 1429 Third Avenue. This could be a great choice if you’re aiming to start 2018 on a fresh and healthy foot (although don’t worry, there’s plenty of dishes that most certainly don’t fall into this category!) You’ll be paying a la carte here, so the choice is up to you. For healthy, you might consider the Coconut Rice Porridge, which combines black and brown rice, spiced coconut milk, orange zest, cashew butter, granola, and roasted pear, paired with the Golden Mylk, which is almond milk, ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. For something a bit more indulgent, you might try the egg tacos washed down with a Kimchi Bloody Mary, made with house-made kimchi brine, raw garlic, roasted tomato and house-made hot sauce.
