Things To Do In October

October is a bustling month in New York City–the month that kicks off the festivities that last in the city all the way through New Years! There will be plenty of autumn and Halloween themed events happening all over Manhattan this month, and stay tuned, as we’ll be sharing a complete line-up of those in a few days! In the meantime, grab your calendar and put a few non-Halloween activities on the schedule. From Comic Festivals to street art, pizza parties to children’s theater, we’re confident you’ll find something right up your alley.

Comic Con: October 4th through 7th

Comic Con is an annual event in NYC, one that is anticipated for months by comic book lovers world-wide! People fly in from all over the world to partake in the festivities, and lucky you, you’re just a few blocks away (at least for Glenwood residents living on the Westside!) Happening at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, this giant festival will feature comic books, games, sci-fi, anime, manga, as well as plenty of celebrities, vendors, and publishers. You’re encouraged to dress up as your favorite comic book character, as most people at the festival do! From Batman to Pokemon to the Ninja Turtles to Harry Potter, you’re sure to see it all.

Another perk about this event? It’s family friendly, and appeals just as much to the little guys and girls watching the cartoons as their parents, who grew up reading the comic books.

Charlotte’s Web: October 6th

New York City may very well be the theater capital of the world, what with Broadway shows attracting the very best talent! Why not start your kids off early by having them attend children’s theater? The Tribeca Performing Arts Center, located Downtown near Tribeca Bridge Tower,  will be putting on Charlotte’s Web on October 6th at 11am. The story is a sweet tale about a spider named Charlotte who saves a friendly Pig named Wilbur from the slaughterhouse, by using her creativity and wit. The novel the show is derived from is read in elementary schools all across the country, and has been loved for generations. Thus it will be just as wonderful of an outing for kids, their parents, and their grandparents! It’s recommended for children ages 5 and older, and tickets are $30.

Slice Out Hunger’s Pizza Party: October 10th

What New Yorker doesn’t love pizza?! On October 10th, head to St. Anthony’s Church for the Slice Out Hunger event. This annual event will feature dozens of NYC’s best pizzerias, and you’ll be able to buy $1 pizza slices from them all! The proceeds go directly to two wonderful NYC organizations which fight hunger every day, The Sylvia Center and City Harvest. The event is cash only, so come prepared with lots of dollar bills.
