September is a transitional month when it comes to weather – some days still feeling like summer and others give a crisp preview of fall. It’s ideal to have a restaurant in your back pocket that caters to both outdoor and indoor seating in equal measures, and we can’t think of one we love more than the West Side’s own The Smith!

Located across the street from Lincoln Center (also conveniently right near Glenwood’s luxury building The Regent), The Smith has been a staple in the West Side neighborhood since 2007, and it’s easy to see why. Featuring seasonal dishes and comfort bistro fare, the dishes and are exactly what you want from a neighborhood restaurant. They source local ingredients that truly add a New York touch to every dish on the menu. Another win? You’ll be happy to know The Smith offers daily specials (Sunday’s spaghetti and meatballs is our favorite!)

Drinks

Ordering a refreshing drink to compliment the cool weather is the perfect way to start your dining experience at The Smith. There’s a wide array of perfectly crafted beverages that are sure to delight, from homemade sodas with very unique twists!  The mango-cashew milk “egg cream” is a tasty one!

To Start

If you’re dining on an evening that feels more like autumn than summer, start with the roasted tomato soup with cheddar melt, which promises to warm you from the inside out. Is the night is young and the breeze is warm, enjoy your meal outside! Go ahead and start with the zucchini flatbread, complete with burrata, ricotta cheese, basil, scallion, and fresh arugula.

If you’re a fan of the Raw Bar, definitely place an order for some oysters, no matter the weather outside. There’s several different kinds to choose from, but we say live on the edge and go with the recommended Oyster of the Day – the catch has never let us down!

Mains

One of the main reasons The Smith is such a neighborhood hot spot is the sheer variety on the menu. The Smith actually perfects every single dish they put on the menu. Whether you’re a pasta person, burger bro, or salad sister, there’ss something everyone will be sure to enjoy.

A few favorites from The Smith to keep on your radar:

  • The Lobster Roll – which is poached Maine lobster, baby arugula, marinated tomatoes, buttered brioche, and house chips (for the seafood lover)
  • The Prime Burger – a 28-day dry-aged chunk of meat, Gruyère, overnight tomatoes, crispy onions, wild mushroom fondue, homemade bun, and fries (for the meat lover)
  • The Ricotta Gnocchi – bathed in truffle cream (for anyone who has a soft spot for truffles – pretty much everyone, right?)

Dessert

There’s quite a few dessert options, but my very favorite (especially if you have a sweet spot for chocolate) is the s’mores in a jar, featuring a layering of chocolate pudding, graham cracker crumble, toasted marshmallow, and dark chocolate crunch bar. It’s seriously the perfect end of summer sweet treat. If you’re in the mood for something a bit fruitier, go with the local blueberry pie, which is almond cookie crust, ruby port, and crème fraîche ice cream. Yum!
