NYC Events To Attend In The Month Of October

Have you guys been indulging in pumpkin spice EVERYTHING?! I sure have, which means October is in full swing! While we were a bit bummed not to discover that a pumpkin spice festival was being held in NYC, we did find some pretty great runner-ups. Here’s the 5 things we’re very much looking forward to indulging in this month…PSL in hand!

New York Comic Con

When: October 6th-9th
Where: Javits Center in Manhattan

If the thought of your favorite comic book characters running around in life-sized form, coupled with the thought of attending this event with 151,000 other fans makes you beyond giddy, well then, the NY Comic Con is not to be missed. The 4 day festival will feature celebrities, shopping, panels, and of course all your favorite superheroes…and encourages YOU to dress up as one, too!

Open House New York

When: October 15th-16th
Where: Various locations throughout the 5 boroughs

This weekend-long event is one all New Yorkers and tourists alike should mark their calendars for. For one weekend a year, Open House New York opens the doors to usually off-limit sites and attractions to the public. What does this mean for you? Well, that you have VIP access to some of the coolest spots in the city that very few people ever have or will see. The final lineup hasn’t been released yet, but keep an eye on their website, as it will be very soon! For an idea of what to expect, check out their weekend event guide. Last year OHNY opened the doors to places ranging from underground subway stops to the Grand Lodge of the Masons to the Kickstarter headquarters.

Harvest Festival

When: October 16th
Where: Queens Botanical Garden in Queens

For a full day of family fun (or even an outdoorsy day date with your current flame!), head to the Queens Botanical Garden for their annual Harvest Festival + Pumpkin Patch. The festival will include live music, games, nature walks, farm tours, bouncy houses, craft & food vendors, a petting zoo, a beer tent, and of course, a pumpkin patch. The best part? You get the feeling of spending the day in a quaint town on the Hudson, without actually leaving the city.

Giant Pumpkin Weekend

When: October 22nd-23rd
Where: New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx

One of my favorite parts of Halloween as a child was watching “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on repeat all October long. Kids of NYC can now actually experience the Giant Pumpkin Weekend in the Bronx, and their parents can finally get the PERFECT shot for the upcoming holiday card. The pumpkin patch will feature monstrous gourds—weighing up to a TON—which will certainly trump any pumpkin patch upstate!

The Village Halloween Parade

When: October 31st
Where: East Village, Sixth Ave from Spring Street to 16th Street

NYC is notorious for its parades (it seems like we have one going up 5th Avenue every other weekend, right?!), but none quite hold the candle or draw such a festive crowd as The Village Halloween Parade. The parade goes from 7pm to 10:30pm, and the one requirement to be allowed to march is you must be in costume…this year’s theme is “reverie”. We’re pretty excited to see all the dreamy mummies, zombies, Clintons, and Trumps in the lineup!
