Celebrating Labor Day Weekend In NYC

Labor Day Weekend is just around the corner from September 3rd through September 6th! Don’t stress if you haven’t made plans to leave town yet, as there’s plenty to keep you busy right in the heart of the city–so much, in fact, that sorting through it all can feel like a full time job in and of itself! Instead, we took the guesswork out of it and show you below how NYC is celebrating on this well-deserved day off of work.

If You Love Picnics

What’s Labor Day without a picnic? Westside and Upper East Side Glenwood residents have the ultimate picnic spot right in their own “backyard” – Central Park! And while barbecuing is not allowed in Central Park during most of the year, there are 3 days when it IS allowed – and Labor Day is one of them! There are restrictions (check out the Central Park website for more information), so please check out the rules in advance.

Of course, you don’t have to barbecue… take whatever your favorite picnic foods are, a blanket to spread out and sit on, and you’re in business. Don’t feel like preparing all of that food in advance? You can order your picnic from the Park’s Department, and either pick it up at their Bike Shop on West 80th, or they can even arrange to deliver it to you in the park. How’s that for convenience?

If You Love Boats

Manhattan Skyline over Hudson River, New York City, USA

What’s the end of summer if not spent on a boat?! Head on over to the Hudson River to Pier 25 (so close to residents living at Tribeca Bridge Tower.) You’ll find a historic boat called Grand Banks, where you can watch the summer sunset while eating your share of oysters and all other forms of seafood with your cracking cold drink of choice. A pretty remarkable way to say ciao to summer in the city!

If You Love Sports

Labor Day weekend is home to the annual US Open! If you’re a sports fan, this legendary event is not one to be missed. Not only will you get a chance to see the tennis pros up close and personal, but you can truly make a day out of it by hitting up one of the many restaurants, cafes, and ice cream spots onsite. Although the event takes place in Queens, it’s a must-attend event for Glenwood residents who are tennis fans, and it’s an easy taxi or Uber ride from your apartment, or a straight shot over on the 7 train, which departs from the heart of NYC at 42nd Street. Definitely an event worth the commute! If this interests you, check out our post on attending the US Open this year by clicking here
