Bernhardt/Hamlet

For a show with a classic Shakespearean vibe, Bernhardt/Hamlet is a new play coming to the stage this fall that you won’t want to miss. The plot reads like so: In 1899, the international stage celebrity Sarah Bernhardt set out to tackle Hamlet, which would have been her most ambitious role to date. The show has both elements of a comedy and drama, and the fact that it’s set against a lavish Shakespearean production gives it an element of being a timeless classic, too.

Previews opened for the shows August 31st, and it officially opens September 25th.

The Cher Show

As Jersey Boys showed, we all love a musical with recognizable songs that can be sung along to, and that’s exactly what you’ll be getting with The Cher Show (hello, “I Got You Babe”). The musical traces the career of pop star Cher, the rock legend with a hundred million records sold. You’ll see her roles as woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, along with super star. Costumes promise to be over the top, and the dancing numbers are already being talked about.

Previews begin November 1st, and the show opens December 3rd.

King Kong

If you’re looking for an over the top musical production with all the technological bells and whistles this season, King Kong is probably the show for you! This thrilling theatrical take on what is arguably the world’s most epic modern myth comes alive on Broadway through a mix of robotics, puppetry and stagecraft. The plot features an ambitious young actress and a maverick filmmaker taking a voyage from the bustling streets of 1930’s New York to an uncharted island to capture the greatest wonder the world has ever seen: a 2,000 pound gorilla named King Kong. As you can imagine, this is a very NYC-centric show!

Previews begin October 5th, and the show opens on November 8th.

To Kill A Mockingbird

If you’re a literary lover, the show To Kill A Mockingbird, which is based on Harper Lee’s novel of the same title, is a must-see. The play tells the story about Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era South, as he defends a black man against an undeserved charge, and his children against prejudice. Featuring Jeff Daniels, it’s sure to be the drama everyone in the theater (and literary) worlds are talking about this season.

Previews begin November 1st, and it officially opens December 13th.

American Son

For a show with a star-studded cast (hello, Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale), American Son needs to be on your que. It tells the story of a mother searching for her missing teenage son at a Florida police station in the middle of the night. Filled with drama and heightened with emotions, this play is a gripping tale of two parents caught in our national divide, with their worst fears hanging in the balance.

Previews begin October 6th, and it officially opens November 4th.

Some Tips…

While you can for sure go to each show’s website and purchase full price tickets, we have a few tried-and-true tips for securing discounted ones, even for the biggest Broadway show names!

Put the TodayTix app on your Smartphone. You’ll be able to snag tickets up to a month in advance, at heavily discounted prices. After purchasing them, you’ll meet the TodayTix representative in front of the theater half an hour before showtime to receive the tickets (they will be wearing a clearly labeled vest indicating who they are, don’t worry!)

If you’re flexible with your time, consider joining the lottery for shows, or snagging standing room only tickets. These are both available the same day of the show, meaning you’ll need to get to the theater when it opens to secure your spot (or potential spot, in the case of a lottery!)

Visit the show’s box office directly. While these won’t be steeply discounted, you will avoid paying any service charges, which is a hefty chunk of money that adds up quickly, especially if you’re buying multiple tickets.
