The Farmhouse Fresh Philosophy at Tribeca’s Telepan Local
Famed farm-to-table Chef Bill Telepan adds a sequel to his Upper West Side Telepan restaurant. The new(er) Tribeca location is “much cooler in clientele and price” offering American small plates and mains that make wildly creative use of high-quality local ingredients. The high-energetic, wood-paneled space has an Aspen vibe and is a bit on the side, but lovely service adds the perfect warmth for the upcoming chillier Holiday month.
The Upper West Side gets a healthy new eating option, Communal Oven and Earth
Opened last Spring, The Upper West Side welcomes the health-conscience cafe, Communal Oven & Earth. Communal isn't vegetarian, or vegan, though there are plenty of options here if you are. The menu(s) contain fresh, quality ingredients, prepared simply and with care, all at reasonable prices. I went toWe recently ventured out to Communal last week and and thoroughly enjoyed most everything about the casual atmosphere, friendly servers, and, most important, my dinner.
Two terrific new bakeries, Arcade Bakery and Baked arrive in Tribeca
Question: Can neighborhoods ever have TOO MANY bakeries? Especially if the bakeries are really, really good? How about if those bakeries also have first-rate coffee and a comfortable place to sitand chill or work or chat with friends? So is the case in Tribeca, which is already one of the prettiest, most loaded-with-goodies neighborhood in all of Manhattan. Two such spots have arrived within a few blocks of each other this year - and of course, there was no outcry about the community being overrun by brownies and baguettes, croissants and cookies and cakes. Chef Alex Stupak has been making very good food for a bunch of years now - tasty tacos and even better drinks, not to mention mounds of the best guacamole available anywhere in the city. At his brand new and predictably packed Empellon Al Pastor on St. Marks, Stupak is turning out some amazing, you guessed it, TACOS, including a truly remarkable version of the joint's namesake creation. We went (twice!) this week in the restaurant's opening week; we think you should too - tell'em we sent ya!
