For Kids Living on the Upper West Side: Adventures in Science and RoboFun

As if Upper West Siders needed another reason to love their neighborhood, their proximity to the American Museum of Natural History is a treat! The Museum offers a program called Adventures in Science, which introduces children from Pre-K to Grade 5 to a wide variety of scientific disciplines.

All their programs are super hands-on, including interactive tours throughout the museum. The programs range in length, from one and three day workshops covering a specific topic to week-long camps. To give you a bit of an idea what your children will be learning, the Summer 2018 lineup includes everything from Senses: We’re Sensational! for 2nd graders to AnthroExplorers: Our Evolutionary History for 5th graders.

Another great Upper West Side enrichment opportunity is RoboFun. This program features workshops for children using cutting edge technologies (think: robots, video games, and animations!) It’s available for kids ages 3 to 12, and through age appropriate activities they will learn engineering, coding, and plenty of creative thinking. They have after-school, daytime, weekend and vacation day classes for students enrolled in Pre-K to 6th grade, plus plenty of summer camp opportunities.

Both of these programs are ideal for Westside Glenwood residents and their children, particularly those living at the Grand Tier!

For Children Living Downtown: Pixel Academy

If tech innovation and digital technology is your child’s cup of tea, look no further than The Pixel Academy.

Located Downtown, the Academy offers programs for children aged 7-16 that focus on exploring technologies most don’t get to learn about in school. The approach is hands on and project based, and although the kids are constantly learning, they are also having fun so are inspired to be there! You sure won’t be hearing any “I’m bored!” coming out of Pixel Academy students’s mouths! A few of their after-school programs include:

  • Areas of coding
  • Design
  • Programming
  • Game design
  • Minecraft modding
