How To Give Back This Holiday Season
Thanksgiving goes hand in hand with giving thanks and wanting to give back to the wonderful New York City community we call home. While you may associate volunteering around the holidays with helping out at a soup kitchen, there’ss plenty of opportunities available in, near, and around many of Glenwood’s luxury apartment buildings.
We did a bit of research and rounded up a few volunteering opportunities to fit every personality and interest. In advance, we thank YOU for giving this Thanksgiving!
Run to Fundraise
If you’re looking for a way to do good and burn off the Thanksgiving calories, consider signing up for a seasonal race or turkey trot. Many of these events function as fundraisers for a specific cause – like a charitable organization or local community. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, many races take entry fees and put them towards Thanksgiving meals for those in need! Sign up as a team with your family and friends, or join a pre-existing team (also a great way to meet other like-minded people!).

Deliver A Meal
There are lots of New Yorkers who aren’t able to leave their home to receive a hot meal. Lend a hand in preparing and delivering nutritious meals to people all around New York City. Google options around your neighborhood to get involve! Giving back is a great way to begin the holiday season!
Donate Your Gently Used Coats
If you’re a self-starter, a great volunteer opportunity that can be done on your own schedule is to collect gently used coats from your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to donate to local coat drives. Whether you live in one of Glenwood’s luxury apartment buildings in Midtown Manhattan, the Upper East Side, or the West Side, take a few moments to go through your closet and gather warm essentials that can be passed on to others this holiday season. To make an afternoon out of it, ask friends to do the same and join you!
Not only will your friends and family be happy to clean out their closet, but knowing they’re helping New York families stay warm this winter is a plus. Coats are often given to the homeless and low-income families around New York City. After you complete your collection, drop off your coat collection at one of the many drop-off locations in a neighborhood near you!

If you love the idea of giving back this season but are crunched for time, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
There are so many ways to get creative and give back to the community from the comfort (and warmth) of your own Glenwood apartment. An idea we love is creating friendly greeting cards. These cards can bring a smile to seniors, deployed military, and hospitalized children all year round, and especially during the holidays. Many organizations can be found online who will distribute the cards. This would be a fun activity to do with family or friends from the comfort of your apartment, drinking cocoa and eating cookies from local bakeries, while giving back to the community!
