Gift Shopping On Small Business Saturday In NYC

The Saturday following Thanksgiving is known as Small Business Saturday, where gift givers are encouraged to continue their Black Friday shopping at small businesses. Today, we highlight spots that are oftentimes forgotten among the hustle and bustle of the city, including boutiques and small shops with locally made gifts right near your Glenwood home. Not only are you supporting mom-and-pop shops in the city, but you’re also gifting unique finds to those you love this holiday season!

For Everything Handmade

The Holiday Handmade Cavalcade is the spot to go if you’re looking to score handmade gifts this year. The fair is made up of members from the NY Handmade Collective, and showcases a huge selection of handmade gifts all from artists and craftsmen in the NYC metro area. You can shop in good conscious because you’re supporting your local community and also supporting artists! You’ll be able to find gifts ranging from jewelry, knitted sweaters, soaps, paper goods, cute things for your furry friends, and seriously everything in between.

On small business Saturday the event will take place in Brooklyn at The Invisible Dog, however, on December 3rd through 9th the fair will be relocating to Manhattan, and will be located at the Chelsea Market on the Westside, quite near Emerald Green and Crystal Green. This is truly the place to go if you’re looking for a unique one-stop-shop experience for everyone on your gift list!

If you do a quick search on the American Express website, it will lead you to a variety of small businesses right in your very neighborhood that participate in Small Business Saturday. Many of these will be locally owned restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops. While these are all great spots to pop into for a warming lunch in between shopping trips, don’t discount them as being great spots to shop, too! Sometimes the gift of an experience (i.e. a gift card to a fabulous restaurant) is one of the greatest gifts of all. Or perhaps pick up a few bags of locally roasted coffee beans from your favorite neighborhood coffee shop to gift to your child’s teachers, your doorman, babysitter, hair stylist, or anyone else in your life who deserves a little something special this season!
