Sweet, Warm Treats and Snow Monsters Invade The Flatiron

Fun In The Flatiron: Peter Regli's Snow Monsters

The Madison Square Park / Flatiron Plaza area is bustling year-round these days, with both tourists and locals alike (not too mention the working stiffs from the surrounding offices) packing such hot spots as Eataly, the still-newish Lego store, and whatever food pop-up or art installation is going on. Of course, it's a bit more pleasant to lounge around in the park when it's not quite so February out–plus the original Shake Shack is still closed for its massive overhaul, with a mid-summer reopening target–but still, apparently there's no slowing down the new treats and entertainments of this place. Witness: Madison Square Park's brand-new Momofuku Milk Bar "Cabin"; and the extremely photo-op-able pack of Snow Monsters.

First, the big news about the Momofuku Milk Bar cabin, which is located in the southern part of Madison Square Park for the next two months or so, are the just-invented, appropriately warming (and unsurprisingly sweet and delicious) beverages. Yes, all of mad-genius dessert inventor Christina Tosi's greatest hits are on hand here, from slices of her Crack Pie and Dulce de Leche Cake Truffles to her Cornflake Marshmallow and Blueberries and Cream Cookies. But what you really want at the cabin are Tosi's new creations: Hot White Chocolate Cereal Milk, so rich and sexy that the first sip or two will buckle your knees; or (or in my case, AND), the explosively flavored Butterscotch Miso Hot Apple Cider.

Snow Monsters Invade Flatiron Plaza

After visiting the Milk Bar Cabin (or before… or both), it's time to check out the pack of Snow Monsters that have taken up residence across the street on the Flatiron Plaza. Designed by Swiss artist Peter Regli, created in Vietnam by the Hahn family, who are renowned for their Buddhist temple statues, and presented by the Dominique Levy Gallery, these smooth marble snow people, in various stages of melt (hence the range of facial expressions, from happy to alarmed), make for irresistible Instagram material.
