Best NYC Restaurants For Valentine’s Day 2014
Valentine’s Day is coming up and one of the best ways to celebrate with your special someone is to enjoy a delicious meal from a romantic New York City restaurant. It’s so important to pick the right place! So, to help guide your decision making, here are a few restaurants in NYC that have outstanding food and great vibes to foster the perfect date!
Chef Georges Mendes's Aldea
I've had nothing but excellent meals over the years at Chef Georges Mendes's Aldea in the Flatiron, and the place always feels special and fun. For Aldea's Valentine's Day dinner service, Mendes is offering a $95, three-course prix-fixe menu, featuring such signature dishes as his Spanish Octopus and the amazing Arroz de Pato. Get different six dishes and split them with your loved one for a guaranteed delicious feast.
Contra on the Lower East Side
Another option likely to yield memorably great food is Contra on the Lower East Side, which is well suited for a special occasion because they always only offer a single tasting menu (five courses for $55) and change their menu almost every night anyway. No word yet if they're doing something different for Valentine's, but know that they start taking reservations two weeks out.
Empellon Cocina in the East Village
Chef Alex Stupak announced the other day that he's taking reservations now for a six-course Valentine's prix-fixe at his fantastic Empellon Cocina in the East Village. No specific details yet- nor word if he's doing the same at his almost-as-good West Village spot Empellon Taqueria. This place is bound to be a winner, even if doesn't include his legendary guacamole. (My personal pick for best in NYC.)
Lincoln on the Upper West Side
Another likely winner is Chef Jonathan Benno's Lincoln on the Upper West Side, with a $75 six-course Valentine's menu full of decadent-sounding delights. Plus, it's so easy to fall in love in that pretty room.
Fig and Olive Restaurant
Fig and Olive just posted up their Valentine's Day menu for both their NYC locations. $55 Prix Fixe menu, featuring appetizers like Seared Scallops & Chanterelle and Half Shell Oysters, and main courses like Roasted Rack of Lamb. Sounds good to me! They're also now taking reservations.
Dinner and a Movie in NYC
Finally, a pair of wild cards. The Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg is still the only place in town where you can order a full dinner and all the drinks you want while watching a movie, which sounds like it could be distracting, but trust me, they pull it off. And although they haven't yet announced this year's Valentine's Day movie-and-menu pairing, the Nitehawk usually makes for a terrific low-key date night. And if you and yours haven't yet seen the amazing Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel in Chelsea–it's an immersive, roaming theatrical experience based on Macbeth–they're hosting a special Valentine's performance, which can be combined with dinner at their brand new, dramatically decorated Heath Restaurant.
