Rooftop Restaurants You Have To See Before Summer Is Over

Summer won’t be here for much longer, and there are so many rooftop restaurants that need to be explored before it comes to a close! Take full advantage of these last few weeks of sunshine with a fabulous meal on an outdoor terrace. Below, we’ve rounded up a selection of our favorites, all found in Glenwood neighborhoods.

Gallow Green

If you live on the Westside, head straight over to Gallow Green in Chelsea, located atop The McKittrick Hotel (which is not actually a hotel, rather an interactive theater–also a super fun thing to check out this summer!) Gallow Green is a top notch rooftop restaurant because it’s absolutely covered in greenery, making it feel like an enchanted forest. There’s plenty of pretty blooms scattered about, as well as benches and little alcoves for catching a side conversation. Combine that with long picnic tables covered in delicate tea lights, and you truly feel as though you’ve stepped onto the set of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”… spectacular! The menu here includes group favorites such as pizzas, summer salads, and lobster rolls, all of which are ideal for sharing. And don’t forget the Nutella Calzone for dessert!

Also, they feature a weekend brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 4pm (weather permitting), which is an all you can eat buffet-style with live entertainment, for $39 a person. Truly ideal for Glenwood residents living at the Emerald Green and Crystal Green.

Mr. Purple

For Downtown residents, take a stroll over east and check out Mr. Purple on the 15th floor of Hotel Indigo on the Lower East Side. This chic rooftop features a pool nestled between comfy deck chairs, as well as plenty of couches and tables for dining. You can start your day early with brunch at 11am (we recommend the Blackberry Yogurt Bowl or Avocado Smash), and extend until late into the night with dinner (try the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sliders or the Mr. Purple Burger for a real summertime grill taste). We promise you, Mr. Purple offers views for days! Seriously, you’ll be reveling at the Empire State Building and the rest of Manhattan and Brooklyn in all their glory–not only a great spot to come for locals, but a top-notch place to bring out of town visitors so they can really take in the city from above! A truly great go-to for residents at Liberty Plaza.

Refinery Rooftop

For those residents living in Midtown East, head on over to the Refinery Rooftop for your fabulous summertime rooftop experience. There will be music, mixologists, a trendy industrial vibe, and plenty of couch and table seating. Lunch and dinner are where it’s at here, so plan to go hungry for their Seared Yellowfin Tuna, Grilled Hanger Steak Flatbread, or Little Gem Caesar Salad with watermelon radish and frico. Also good to note, they have a huge menu available for folks with dietary restrictions: think restrictions with gluten, garlic, nuts, dairy, shellfish, soy, and pork. Wow! After finishing your dinner, head downstairs to Winnie’s Jazz Bar to catch a live set before heading home. What a perfect summer-in-the-city night out!

Another wonderful rooftop restaurant to add to your list before summer’s end is Serra, which we recently did an in-depth review of! And here’s our guide to six rooftop bars to check out this summer from a few years back–all of which are still sunny and popping, and will keep you well hydrated until summer’s inevitable end.
