In a season filled to overflowing with first-rate food and drink festivals (Grub Street, Craft Beer, Oyster, Pickle Day, Dumpling Day, and the huge New York City Food and Wine Festival) maybe our favorite one of all kicks off next month, the ten-day celebration of all things fermented and apple-y, Cider Week 2015. Beginning on November 6 and with special events, tastings, and pop-ups at restaurants and bars all over the city, NYC Cider Week 2015 looks to be bigger and, so, presumably better than ever. Here's a quick overview of a few of the most intriguing goings-on.

Lower East Cider Festival – November 8th

The centerpiece of Cider Week seems to be the huge Lower East Cider Festival, taking over three whole blocks of historic Orchard Street, I would guess between Houston and Delancey. Described as a farmer's market and harvest festival, the Lower East Cider has something for everyone, including a community cider press, folk dancing and family activities, excellent food from the likes of Gramercy Tavern, Mission Cantina, Northern Spy, Huertas, Wassail, Txikito, and Wildair, and, of course, plenty of glorious cider via New York State's great orchards.

Lower East Cider Fest will be held on Sunday, November 8, from 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m.

Cider Week NYC at Jimmy's No. 43

For six years now, the craft beer fanatics at Jimmy's No. 43 in the East Village have turned their fine establishment into something of an unofficial clubhouse for Cider Week, and 2015 is no exception. There are a number of appealing events at Jimmy's–for example, the all-day Cider Salon on November 14, where you can sample and mingle with cider makers from the likes of Embark Ciders, Descendant Cider, and EZ Orchards; and the Cask Night on November 11 features the legendary Eleanor Leger cracking open a "Special Cask", the contents of which are still a surprise–but it's also just a great place to hang out with fellow cider lovers.

Jimmy's No. 43 is located at 43 East 7th Street between Second and Third Avenues.

Delaware and Hudson Tasting Menu With Cider Pairings

Starting on Friday, November November 6, and available every night through the 15th, the terrific Delaware and Hudson in Williamsburg, which serves a nightly tasting menu filled with hearty and delicious Pennsylvania Dutch fare, will be offering New York state cider pairings with each of the feast's four courses. Pretzel Rolls and Green Tomato Pie, Saffron Noodles with foraged mushrooms, Long Island Duck Breast… these are just some of the delights that await you at chef Patti Jackson's lovely little restaurant.

Delaware and Hudson is located at 135 North 5th Street, just west of Bedford Avenue, and the special NYC Cider Week pairings are available nightly from November 6 to 15.
