Union Square Cambodian Restaurant, Num Pang

 Num Pang

Num Pang is one of several Union Square restaurants, but here, the main draw is sandwiches! One of the many, many great things about New York City? Not only is the town big enough, diverse enough, adventurous enough to support a food place that sells, almost exclusively, Cambodian sandwiches, but there’s also often a line down the block to just get them!

Num Pang Sandwich Shop is Welcome Addition to Union Square Restaurants

Num Pang

Union Square restaurants already make up an impressive collection of places to eat, but Num Pang is a great addition.  Of course, it helps that the Cambodian restaurant Num Pang happens to make some of the absolute best sandwiches in town. We’ve now tried nearly the entire menu, and have been blown away every single time by the bold, balanced flavors and spanking-fresh ingredients that go into these beauties. Seriously: everything at the Num Pang sandwich shop has been a hands-down, dead-on winner.

Num Pang

A Cambodian resturant for that perfect quick bite, both savory and satisfying

At Num Pang, there are Cambodian sandwiches to satisfy every taste. The Hoisin Veal Meatball sandwich, for example, with jasmin rice, basil and stewed tomato, is near perfect, the buttery bread just exactly the right combination of crunchy-toasty and chewy-soft, the hot meat and sauce working wonderfully with the cool vinegary bite of the carrots and cilantro. The honey glazed Grilled Duroc Pork sandwich strikes just the right balance of spicy, meaty and sweet. The juicy Peppercorn Catfish, dressed with admirable restraint in-house-made sweet soy sauce, was plump and firm and alive with flavor. This Cambodian restaurant has managed to leave its mark amidst Union Square restaurants despite its recentness.

 Num Pang

Num Pang sandwich shops’s recent special, the Lemongrass Chicken Liver Pate with grilled pickled red scallions, was rich and earthy, brightened by the acid of the vinegar. And the Coconut Tiger Shrimp manages to explode with spicy goodness without losing the sweetness of the seafood. A tough trick, that, but one which the Num Pang sandwich shop pulls off time and time again. Best of all, nearly everything here is priced solidly in the single digits, making this, in our opinion, the best place among all Union Square restaurants to grab a quick bite.
