National Pasta Month In NYC

October is National Pasta month and NYC is the place to be to celebrate (after all, we are home to the original Little Italy!) We’ll take you on a culinary journey today from Uptown to Downtown, highlighting the best Italian eateries which you’ll be delighted to find in your very own Glenwood neighborhood!

For Uptowners: Boulud Sud

If you’re looking for an authentic pasta spot, search no further than Boulud Sud. Located at 20 West 64th Street between Broadway and Central Park West, this gem of a restaurant makes in-house pasta using freshly ground local and artisanal Italian flours, in addition to locally sourced organic eggs from Alderfer Family Farm in Pennsylvania. They offer several pastas on their menu, which get switched out seasonally according to fresh ingredients. The Rigatoni alla Carbonara is made with housemade pancetta, snow peas, and plenty of black pepper. Italian perfection! Westside residents will love the ease of this location, as it’s practically at the doorstep to folks living at The Encore, The Regent, Grand Tier and Hawthorn Park.

Good to Know: There’s a Pasta Happy Hour every day of the week here! Indulge Sunday through Thursday from 9pm to close, and Friday and Saturday from 10pm to close. The happy hour puts all pastas at half price, and they are available to order either at the bar or in the lounge.

For Downtowners:  Sola Pasta Bar

Downtown residents are also in luck, because they’re in easy reach of Sola Pasta Bar. Located at 330 West Broadway, a cool draw to this spot (besides the pasta, obviously) is that it has an open kitchen, meaning the chef prepares their homemade pasta right in front of you! There’s plenty of classic dishes on the menu, such as lasagna alla Bolognese and fusilli al ragu, that are packed beautifully with such flavor you’ll be coming back again and again!

Good to Know: If you’re a true pasta lover, you’ll love the opportunity Sola has to join their chefs in making pasta from scratch! Chef Luigi Speranza and Chef Luigi Porceddu will teach you all the secrets and tricks to become a “Master Pasta Maker”… just like them! There are two dishes you will learn how to make: Tagliatelle with a traditional Ragu Bolognese sauce and Garganelli with Fresh Basil Pesto sauce. These classes are offered every Thursday at 6:30pm at The Pastagram located in the Financial District–very close to Liberty Plaza. Included is dinner starting with an aperitivo, appetizer, two pasta dishes, dessert and a surprise, going for $120 per person or $200 for a couple.

To Prepare Pasta At Home

And of course, if you’d like to prepare a delicious homemade pasta in the comfort of your Glenwood home, we have you covered for that, too! Simply head to Agata and Valentina (located in the Lucerne, super convenient for those residing in buildings on the Upper East Side!), where you can load up on authentic Italian noodles, sauces, and herbs created in and imported from Italy. While you’re there, pick up some ingredients for a fresh salad and an Italian dessert (cannoli, anyone?) and you have yourself a phenomenal meal fit for a king and queen.

Good to Know: If you’re taking the night off from cooking and just want to order some take out, you’re in luck! You can also order freshly made pasta dishes, including cavatelli alla bolognese, lasagna, and even mac and cheese!
