Keste Pizza & Vino: A New York Pizzeria & Restaurant

Keste Pizza & Vino:

New York pizza restaurants are plentiful, but wonder why there’s ALWAYS a line outside of Keste Pizza, NYC? Does everyone know that chef Robert Caporuscio has such passion for his craft that he’s the American-chapter president of the Associazone Pizzaiuoli Napoletana, the Naples-based organization that certifies pizza-makers? Is it because Caporuscio imported master artisans from Naples, the world’s pizza capital, to build Keste’s pizza oven, which, of course, is as crucial to making great pizza as the ingredients of the pies themselves? Possibly. But we think the lines are always there–early and late, rain or shine–because Keste Pizza & Vino is currently creating some of the best Neapolitan pizza that  New York has seen in a long time.

Keste Pizza & Vino features both crowd-pleasing variety and foodie-pleasing quality

 Keste Pizza & Vino:

The menu at Keste Pizza, NYC, features 18 varieties of (generously proportioned) single-serving pies, from the simple Margherita–a lovely thing, fresh and bright with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, oil–to the dense Pizza del Papa, which, with its roasted red and yellow peppers, smoked mozzarella, artichoke slices AND puddles of butternut squash cream, is perhaps too much of a good thing. Keste Pizza & Vino’s pizza menu is certainly unique among West Village pizza, but also New York pizza restaurants in general.

Keste Pizza & Vino:

The Quattro Formaggi, on the other hand, is a nicely balanced blend of buffalo mozzarella, grand cru, caciocavallo and nutty parmigiano reggiano, though perhaps our favorite pie at Keste Pizza (so far… we’re still working our way through the menu) is the earthy Funghi, covered in grilled, oily mushrooms. The toppings are all lovingly sourced and wonderfully fresh, but what really makes Keste Pizza & Vino special is that oven, which blisters these beauties just right, allowing for both chewy-ness and crunch in the crust.  If you’re in the West Village, with pizza in mind, Keste Pizza in NYC is not to be missed.
