Chelsea is home to many beautiful, unique galleries cultivated by local and international artists. Locations and Details

We know what you’re thinking: Chelsea is a massive neighborhood, where do I find these galleries?! Lucky for you, there is a website called (drumroll, please) www.chelseagalleries.nyc, which takes all the guesswork out of it for you. The vast majority of the galleries are all located between 10th and 11th Avenues, between 27th and 18th Streets. The website is a great snapshot of each gallery’s location, hours, and both current and upcoming exhibits. So if you want to specify your search rather than wander around, this is a great resource.

However, if wandering is more your jam, that’s great too! The great thing about gallery hopping is that, unlike with museums, you never have to pay an entrance fee. So you can essentially spend an entire day appreciating unique art for completely free. (And who knows? You may even fall in love with a piece of art and purchase it to spruce up your Glenwood home!)

Also, plan accordingly. If you’re going to be gallery hopping on a weekend, it’s worth noting that most galleries are open Monday through Saturday, and are closed on Sunday. So make Saturday your go-to weekend day to hop!

Thursday Night Opening Receptions

Another fun way to experience the Chelsea Gallery Hop is to clear your calendar on Thursday evenings, and hop around to the different show openings! Basically every Thursday between 6pm and 8pm, you can make your way through the opening receptions of the Chelsea galleries, enjoying salted peanuts and free glasses of wine to boot. This is a fun way to experience art, but it also doubles as a great way to people watch a very eclectic NYC crowd. It would make for a fun night out with your friends, or even a unique date night! Also worth noting is that there’ss a NYC Meetup dedicated solely to Thursday night Gallery hopping, found here. What a fun way to go out mid-week, meet new friends, and appreciate a little culture, too!
