Ample Hills Creamery

As a resident of Midtown, I can hardly explain my excitement when Brooklyn’s famous Ample Hills Creamery popped up in Gotham West Market. Bad for the waist line, but good for the soul, I like to say! Ample Hills was created by two Brooklynites back in 2011 and features ice cream that is made with hormone free milk, cream from grass fed cows, and organic cane sugar. All of their mix-ins are made in-house by scratch, and you can really taste such a difference.

Two of the best flavors are Ooey Gooey Butter Cake and Salted Crack Caramel. If you prefer cones over a cup, you have to try their a salted pretzel cone!

Ample Hills offers ice cream making classes, monthly ice cream socials for the community, and even a great program called Pints and Postcards, which allows you to write postcards to the charity they are supporting that month, while enjoying a delicious scoop!

You can also place an order on their website to have ice cream delivered nationwide, which we think would make the perfect present for friends and family to add to their summer BBQ’s! We’d suggest going with the Taste of New York ice cream 4 pack.

A la Mode

A la Mode is the most adorable little ice cream shop, located on 55th Street. It’s exactly what you would imagine it would be like to visit an ice cream shop back in the days when our grandparents went! Its a small family run company, featuring nut-free, egg-free, sesame-free ice cream, with additional gluten-free and dairy-free options, making it the perfect spot to go for parents and kiddos with any type of allergies or food restrictions.

Two of the flavors which we can’t get enough of are…

  1. Wired Ice Cream – coffee ice cream with chocolate chips
  2. Partly Cloudy – blue cotton candy ice cream with mini marshmallows

In addition to being a neighborhood favorite, A la Mode is also a go-to spot for kids and their caregivers in the neighborhood, offering “Cones and Crafts” on Tuesdays for children up to 4 years old. This includes a craft, a mini cone for the kiddo, and a regular sized-treat for the grown-up, all for $10!

If you don’t live in NYC, good news for you too, because you can now order their special ice cream right from their website! Talk about a summertime delivery to look forward to!

Snow Days

Snow Days can be found inside City Kitchen’s food court and is ice cream’s cool cousin: shaved cream! It’s an evolution of the Taiwanese and Korean shaved ices and combines the fluffy texture of snow with the creaminess of ice cream.

Staying in sync with the other artisanal spots on the list, Snow Days’ shaved cream is made with the best of the best products – in this case fresh organic dairy from New York’s Hudson Valley. To top off the fresh and local flavors of which ever scoop you choose, choose a few of their unique toppings:

  • Fruity Pebbles and Cap’n Crunch
  • Coconut Shavings and Rainbow Sprinkles
  • Nilla Wafers, Oreos, and Fudge Brownies
  • Crunchy Granola
  • Fresh Seasonal Fruits
  • Walnuts, Peanuts, and Almonds
